January, 2006

Dear fellow SHPIC members,

Last summer Dennis' and my grandson Peter had an unbelievable close call/"accident" with our golf cart. We did not have it safely secured parked on our steep hill, Peter got in, released the brake and went over the side of the hill. A little redwood sapling saved his life! It was truly a wake-up call for us as a family but I also feel it might serve as a wake-up call for us in the park.

Our home is high on the hill and our golf cart is very handy for our family when we go up and down several times a day. Many of us in the park are finding them to be a real convenience and every summer there are more golf carts "tootling" around the park. It is our belief that they serve as an attractive nuisance to young and old children alike. Even though it takes a key to start the golf cart it does not to release the brakes. (It is simply a tap on the brake pedal and off they go!)

In order to keep the park safe I think it would be a good idea to have some golf cart rules for Summer Home Park. I am interested in collecting your thoughts, ideas and concerns as to how we might go about coming up with some recommendations to present to the membership meeting concerning this matter. Here are some of the thoughts I have had:

Should we have people register their carts?

Should we create and then hand out a booklet of safety tips and rules to follow: turning the wheels, putting a block under them, certain parking spaces, driving rules, etc.??

Should we construct a parking area at the top of the beach where carts should park so that is not possible on a brake release for the cart to go off the cliff?

Should there be designated parking and safety rules for parking in other places in the Center and also at residences?

Please send me any suggestions, ideas and concerns. You can reach me at alison222@sbcglobal.net, 415 461-1900, or write me at 51 Bayview Rd., Kentfield, CA 94904. I would like to propose some guidelines to the SHPIC Board and then to the membership at the Memorial Day meeting, 2006.

Thank you so much,
Alison Giesea Adams

URGENT Request from Sue Hart

We need as many people as we can gather for the Board meeting on the 26th.

Supervisor Randy Poole is going to ask the board to approve the "pilot study", which he is calling "research" to low flow the river. According to the Russian Riverkeeper, Don
McEnhill, IF he is going to call this pilot low flow "research", then he is going to try and get around something called CECLA. ( I have no idea what that is, but they are really
trying to pulll a fast one) This is really urgent. We need to pack that board meeting overflowinig to the street.
Thanks,

Salmon Sue

A Letter from Sue Hart regarding "Low Flow"

Dear Summerhome Park Friends,

Today is a cool gray day here in the park, as Fall is in full throttle now, and Winter
approaches. I am not, however, writing to you to discuss the weather.

The fight for our beloved Russian River is heating up.

There are three important dates coming up:

Monday October 26, 2004 9am
Monday, November 1, 2004, 9 am
Friday, November 5, 2004, 1 pm

Location: Board of Supervisors Meeting
575 Administration Drive Room 100A
Santa Rosa, CA

ALL THREE OF THESE MEETINGS (ONE IS A "WORKSHOP") ARE ABOUT THE RUSSIAN RIVER....AND THE LOW FLOW PROPOSAL.

THE SCWA(SONOMA COUNTY WATER AGENCY) IS PUSHING VERY HARD TO "PILOT STUDY' THE
LOW FLOW STARTING IN MAY OF '05.

IF THERE IS ANY WAY YOU CAN ATTEND THESE MEETINGS, DO IT!!!!!!!!! CARPOOL TO THEM

If you cannot attend any of the aforementioned, please e-mail:
lberger@sonoma-county.org and tell the board to
VOTE NO TO LOW FLOW.
PLEASE DO THIS BEFORE NOVEMBER 1. You may reach all 5 board members
at the above e-mail address

I also strongly urge you to purchase a copy of a new DVD Documentary titled
"The Russian Riverkeeper, An advocate For the river, On the river" This entire
"project" was done by a 15 year old boy, who needed to do a school project.
15 year old Francisco Wonneberger sought out Russian Riverkeeper Don McEnhill,
and made a wonderful 54 minute "documentary".

You may purchase a copy of THE RUSSIAN RIVERKEEPER for a $20 donation to:
Friends of the Russian River, or call Don McEnhill at 707-433- 1958.

Welcome to the newly revised 2002 Summer Home Park Website. Our site was relaunched Friday, January 25, 2002. The Park would like to take this opportunity to thank Todd Binder for all his hard work over the past years creating and updating the website. Thanks Todd! You're the Best!

Your input to our new website would be very much appreciated. We need an updated list of email addresses for our members. If you would like to have your email address listed, please send your contact information to Mary Christian.

This year I would like to really get the photo journal pages going and would very much like to include a link to historical photos of the park. If you have any photos or ideas or suggestions for this area of the site, please let me know.

I invite you to check our new site regularly for updates. As soon as the 2002 event calendar and the newsletter are published, they will be promptly placed online. We will be supplying a printer friendly version of both documents so be sure you have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. This "reader" is free and if you don't already have it just click on the link below.
